Dear Supervisor-Elect:

Congratulations on your election to the Board of Supervisors. Service as a Supervisor is a multifaceted and tremendous responsibility – and CSAC is here to support you. The CSAC William "Bill" Chiat Institute for Excellence in County Government, a component of the California Counties Foundation, provides executive development opportunities for County Supervisors.

Every two years CSAC Institute offers newly elected county supervisors this highly-acclaimed, three-session New County Supervisors Institute. Designed to help newly elected County Supervisors ‘hit the ground running,’ the Institute is a comprehensive seminar focused on county governance and the responsibilities and obligations of supervisors. The Institute will provide you with a solid overview of county governance, Supervisor responsibilities and current county issues. It is also the opportunity to build a valuable, lasting network with fellow Supervisors from around the state.

The first of the three sessions begin this coming November. This will be a great opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge on what to expect during your first 90 days, how to work effectively alongside your fellow Board, understanding the role of the County Supervisor and much more. The first session will include a hybrid schedule. Day 1 will be held in Orange County on November 14, 2022 with the CSAC 128th Annual Meeting commencing immediately after (November 15-17, 2022). Day 2 will be offered virtually on December 1. Subsequent sessions will be held in Sacramento February 23-24 and July 27-28, 2023. Please click here for overview of the Institute.

You are also welcomed and encouraged to attend upcoming Ethics Education (AB 1234 training) on Friday, November 18 at 9:00 a.m. This training provides you the opportunity to undertake training that is required every two years and will be held in conjunction with CSAC’s Annual Meeting in Orange County.

California Government Code provides for the professional development of Supervisors-Elect and allows your county to pay the costs of the New Supervisors Institute, even though you have not yet taken office. Your Clerk of the Board or County Executive can assist you with registration.  For questions on the New Supervisors Institute please feel free to contact CSAC Director of Operations and Educational Programs Chastity Benson at [email protected].

We look forward to meeting you in November.
